Set in Shrewsbury, Shropshire, Swan Hill Studios is a working art and design studio and contemporary gallery dedicated to creativity, conversation, and community. We believe art is for everyone, our doors are open to curious minds, fellow creatives, and anyone looking for a little inspiration.
Post Club
Our monthly postal subscription celebrating art, storytelling, and life at Swan Hill Studios. Each month a carefully curated envelope arrives through your letterbox: a personal letter from the studio, a postcard from our artists in residence, original risograph prints, studio ephemera, and thoughtful surprises made especially for members.
It is also a lovely way to support the studio's philanthropic work, funding free residencies and exhibitions for artists who need space, time, and opportunity to create.

Clae Eastgate
Born in Nottinghamshire in 1968, Clae, formerly known as Clae Eastgate, studied at Birmingham School of Art before relocating to London in the early 1990s. An early engagement with sculpture developed into a sustained commitment to life drawing and painting, through which she established a largely self-taught and instinctive visual language.
Since establishing her portrait practice in 2012, Clae has moved from private commissions towards research-led projects, often developed in dialogue with fellow artists and cultural institutions. These bodies of work frequently foreground women of creative significance, positioning portraiture as a form of cultural record. Several of her portraits are now held in the permanent collections of British public galleries and institutions.
More recently, Clae’s attention has turned towards non-representation, material exploration and formal experimentation.
Through a process of stripping back, she explores the changing relationships between rhythm and stillness, balance and harmony, creating work that moves between observation, abstraction, memory and presence.
